AdvoCANNA are first and foremost advocates of cannabis for beauty. And why shouldn’t they be? CBD oil has amazing properties that benefit the skin, and healthy, moisturized skin along with overall health will undoubtedly make you look years younger. The Florida brand claims their products can improve elasticity and even lessen fine lines and blemishes. It all sounds well and good, but we have major reservations about taking the plunge with this CBD skincare line. A lack of any independent tests on their CBD oil and a staggering amount of chemical ingredients are unfortunate red flags.

AdvoCANNA is the brainchild of two Tampa women, Kim and Alex, who experienced firsthand the powerful anti-aging benefits of CBD oil for the skin. Inspired by the results, the two built their own CBD skincare brand which offers a full daily routine complete with cleanser, toner, daily moisturizer, anti-aging creams, and hand and foot cream.

The CBD oil benefits for skin are undeniable and gaining steam as more and more vendors add the powerful cannabinoid to topical formulations. For one, CBD oil contains omega-3 and omega-6, fatty acids that protect skin from sun and free radical damage. It also contains multiple vitamins and minerals that promote skin health. To boot, it has a comedogenic factor of 0 on a scale of 0 to 5, meaning it won’t clog pores (a fun fact we learned from AdvoCANNA and confirmed).

While the creators of AdvoCANNA arguably have extensive knowledge and experience in the skincare world, we wonder how much they know about CBD itself, apart from the benefits you can find out about on the internet. Case in point, they never mention where their CBD is sourced nor make any reference to tests for purity and safety. Also, their homepage states they use full spectrum CBD oil, while elsewhere they claim to use isolate. Though they cite CO2 extraction, we cannot award the Quality Badge in this case, since we don’t know where the hemp comes from and there’s not so much as a single cannabinoid profile to go by.

Another factor in withholding the Quality Badge is the rampant use of chemicals and questionable synthetics in the AdvoCANNA CBD skincare line. We found at least four of the following nasties in each of the products:

• Polysorbates
• Dimethicone
• Phenoxyethanol
• PEG 100 stearate
• Cholecalciferol
• Corn Oil (Hello GMOs!)
• Triethanolamine
• PG (Propylene Glycol)
• Artificial colors
• Methylchloroisothiazolinone
• Methylisothiazolinone (Arguably the worst on the list, mammalian brain studies point to this chemical compound being a neurotoxin.)

The cleanest of the line, which isn’t saying much, is the LUSH hand and foot repair cream. The worst offender is the REFRESH cleanser with ingredients restricted in multiple countries, a possible neurotoxin, corn oil, and more.

In a perfect world, the CBD space should be a safe haven from the chemical stuff. After all, people turn to CBD oil to get AWAY from ingredients like those listed above. AdvoCANNA products may indeed offer the anti-aging effects they promise, but there’s a negative tradeoff with the amount of unnatural and possibly toxic ingredients that will penetrate the skin.

Bottom Line – While the AdvoCANNA team may have a wealth of knowledge and experience in the realm of skincare, we suggest they learn more about CBD itself in addition to natural skin remedies for anti-aging that don’t include the nasty stuff.
